Is ArtCraft Safe and Legit? How to Download the Crafting Apps Safely
The Crafting Apps have an official ArtCraft listing and public source repositories under storytold. That makes their origins and published licenses traceable. We have not audited the code or binaries, so this guide cannot guarantee that an app is safe.
What public repositories establish
The official listing describes the Crafting Apps as free and open source. Their GitHub repositories publish licenses; the READMEs describe MIT OR Apache-2.0 terms where recorded in the individual guides. Bundled assets and branding have separate notices. Open source lets you inspect the source; the license and star counts do not constitute a security audit.
The table below uses repository metadata from the 2026-10-12 research snapshot. “Updated” is GitHub's repository metadata timestamp, not a security-review date.

Use only official ArtCraft download locations
Use each app's official getartcraft.com app page or its Releases page under github.com/storytold. The download guide links to those sources for all twelve apps and the launcher.
Avoid any download site other than getartcraft.com and github.com/storytold. Check the domain and repository name before downloading; avoid repackaged installers and extra software offered as a condition of obtaining an app.
Documented signing and notarization: PhotoCraft
The PhotoCraft README states that its Windows installers and executables are code-signed. It labels the universal macOS app and command-line tool signed and notarized. These are upstream documentation statements; we have not independently checked the signatures.
For the macOS command-line binary, that README says a bare binary cannot carry a stapled notarization ticket as the DMG can, so macOS checks notarization online on first run. See the PhotoCraft guide for downloads and documented limits. Other apps' warnings and installation instructions belong to their own READMEs; do not infer the same signing behavior across the lineup.
Verify SHA256SUMS.txt where published
The snapshotted release assets include SHA256SUMS.txt for PhotoCraft, VectorCraft, FilmCraft, LightCraft, PdfCraft, EffectCraft, DesignCraft, WordCraft, SoundCraft, DeckCraft, CADCraft, GridCraft, ArtCraft Launcher. Obtain the checksum file from the same official release as your package and compare its full SHA-256 digest with a digest calculated locally.
If the digest differs, do not install that file. A match checks that your download matches the published file; it cannot establish that the published software is free of bugs or vulnerabilities. Read the checksum procedure.
The ArtCraft Launcher README documents checksum verification before installation. See the launcher guide for its own platform limits.
Alpha and in-development limits still matter
The official listing labels PhotoCraft and PdfCraft Early alpha; the other ten apps are In development. SoundCraft's README describes pre-alpha software. Public repositories, signing notes and checksums do not remove these documented limitations.
Read the relevant app guide before relying on file compatibility or a workflow. Keep original files and test with copies. This page concerns the Crafting Apps; the supplied app research does not establish the security or privacy properties of the separate ArtCraft AI studio.
Frequently asked questions
Is ArtCraft legit?
The research records an official getartcraft.com apps listing and public source repositories under storytold, with licenses and release assets. These are traceable sources for the Crafting Apps, not an independent certification of the software or the separate AI studio.
Is ArtCraft safe?
We have not audited the code or binaries and cannot guarantee safety. Use official sources, check published checksums and read each app’s platform warnings and early-development limits. The supplied app research does not establish the safety of the separate ArtCraft AI studio.
Is PhotoCraft safe and legit?
PhotoCraft has an official getartcraft.com page and a public storytold repository. Its README documents code-signed Windows installers and executables, signed and notarized macOS builds, and early-alpha limits. These documented measures are not a safety guarantee or our own audit.
Where should I download the Crafting Apps?
Use the app’s official getartcraft.com page or its github.com/storytold repository’s Releases page. Avoid any other download site. Our download guide lists the official sources and snapshotted release assets.
Does SHA256SUMS.txt prove an app is safe?
No. Comparing your package digest with the checksum from the same official release checks that it matches the published file. It does not prove that the published software has no vulnerabilities or bugs.
