- Download it and verify its SHA-256 against SHA256SUMS.txt from the same release.
- Choose AppImage for a build without installation, DEB for Debian/Ubuntu, RPM for Fedora/RHEL/openSUSE, Flatpak for a sandboxed bundle or a tarball to unpack. The x86_64 and aarch64 builds have these options; RISC-V is tarball-only and needs glibc 2.39+. Read the Flatpak and Wayland notes below.

PhotoCraft: verify SHA256SUMS.txt with the checksum instructions.
Verify PhotoCraft with SHA256SUMS.txt
- Open the official GitHub Releases page and select the release matching your package.
- Download the package and its SHA256SUMS.txt from that same release.
- Calculate the package’s SHA-256 digest locally and compare the complete digest with the checksum entry for that exact filename.
- If they differ, do not install the file. Download it again from the official source and investigate.
A match verifies that your file matches the published package. It is not a security audit or a guarantee of safety. See the general checksum guide.
README installation and troubleshooting notes
Linux Flatpak
The bundle needs the freedesktop runtime, which Flatpak offers to install with it. The README uses version placeholders in these commands; choose the exact filename in the panels above.
flatpak install --user photocraft-<version>-linux-x86_64.flatpak # or -linux-aarch64
flatpak run ai.storyteller.photocraftThe README says Flatpak printing uses the host’s CUPS socket. Without CUPS or a printer, it opens the system dialog through the print portal.
The AppImage also bundles the command-line tool: ./photocraft-<version>-linux-x86_64.AppImage --cli --help selects it, while --cli mcp starts MCP over stdio. CLI launches skip desktop integration; a symlink named photocraft-cli also selects this mode.
The AppImage registers a launcher icon and menu entry in ~/.local/share on first run. The README documents PHOTOCRAFT_NO_DESKTOP_INTEGRATION=1 to skip this behavior. On Wayland, file drops are not supported yet: use File › Open or copy an image in the file manager and paste with Ctrl+V. XWayland allows dropping files, but fractional display scaling can blur its interface; Preferences › Performance › Linux display server = X11 selects it on later launches. Read the full README notes before changing the display backend.
macOS command-line notarization
The CLI is signed with the same Developer ID as the app and notarized by Apple. The bare binary cannot carry a stapled ticket like the DMG, so macOS checks notarization online on first run. The README provides these verification commands:
ditto -x -k photocraft-cli-<version>-macos-universal.zip .
spctl --assess --type install -vv photocraft-cli-<version>-macos-universal/photocraft-cli
# ... accepted, source=Notarized Developer IDFreeBSD runtime libraries
The README’s FreeBSD 14 x86_64 instructions install runtime libraries and unpack the tarball into /usr/local. Review the commands and use the matching release file:
pkg install libxkbcommon wayland libX11 libXcursor libXrandr libXi libxcb mesa-libs vulkan-loader gtk3 fontconfig freetype2 alsa-lib
tar -xzf photocraft-<version>-freebsd-x86_64.tar.gz --strip-components 1 -C /usr/local
photocraftBeware of copycat download sites
Check the address before downloading: use getartcraft.com and github.com/storytold/photocraft/releases. Forks, look-alike pages and repackaged installers are not official PhotoCraft releases. Avoid extra software offered as a condition of getting the app. Read our safety guide for the evidence and its limits.
